Research Director

Red Lantern Strategy is looking for a Research Director.  This is a leadership role with significant growth opportunity.  Key responsibilities will include:

Firm Leadership

  • While Directors are not charged directly with revenue goals, this role will be a key stakeholder in the organization and will be expected to provide strategic input on firm strategy in terms of overall business/positioning, staffing and hiring, and staff training and retention efforts.

  • Recommendations and contributions toward industry presence/ Red Lantern brand management and marketing strategy

  • Opportunity to grow into a financial/equity stakeholder

Overseeing qualitative and quantitative research projects from start to finish, leveraging other members of the RLS team

  • As a small company, Directors are expected to do a combination of managing/overseeing other team members as well as executing work directly as workflow requires

  • The emphasis will likely shift to more management, oversight, and training as the team grows

Moderating focus groups and in-depth interviews

  • The Director role needs to be a key moderator on the RLS project team moderating both on projects that fall under his or her direct oversight and as a moderator on other projects going on in the firm, as makes sense based on expertise and workflow

  • Currently, qualitative research is being conducted online/remotely but some travel (~bimonthly/quarterly) will likely be required in the future for in-person qualitative

Strategic Planning

  • Ability to craft strategic recommendations for client businesses based on research and strategy inputs

  • Contributing to ad hoc strategy work (e.g., exercise design, secondary analysis and deliverable development, workshop leadership)

Hands-on client relationship management

  • Acting as a senior consultant that clients can connect with directly on strategic matters ranging from study design, client organization challenges, and general input based on subject matter expertise

  • Nurturing and developing current clients towards next steps

The Ideal Candidate

  • Is capable of wearing “many hats” – as a small company, every contributor (including the principals of the firm) must be able to be hands-on as well as oversee and contribute to the work of others

  • Is a seasoned moderator with deep experience across project types and audiences (B2B moderating experience is ideal, but not required; Interest/willingness to learn B2B moderating/content is required)

  • Detail oriented – can track complex client needs, project objectives, and to-dos across multiple projects simultaneously

  • Leverages resources in an efficient and an effective way for the client and the firm

  • Thinks strategically and proactively on behalf of clients’ needs

  • Is nimble, flexible, and thinks creatively

Vendor/agency side experience a must, client side experience ideal

  • Experience applying research to real world business problems and providing meaningful implications that are directly applicable to business

  • Experience applying insights to product development

  • Tech savvy and experienced in researching technology products and applications

Specific skills needed

  • Senior level moderating

  • Quantitative research experience (e.g., survey writing, analysis, report writing)

  • Experience managing clients directly

  • Complex field/vendor management

  • Ability to write concise and clear reporting of results in PowerPoint with conceptual ideas incorporated

  • Senior level presentation skills, experience presenting at the highest levels of client organizations

Skills nice to have

  • Experience with innovative/alternative research methods (e.g. panels, mobile research, infographics, etc.)

  • A good visual sense, ability to make presentations look good with less words

Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits include company contribution toward medical, dental and vision, life insurance and 401K option.
